Ubisoft’s getting into the free-to-play shooter space with Ghost Recon Online for PC, the publisher has announced today.
It’s exactly what you’d expect: a full-featured, online multiplayer, third-person, cover-based tactical shooter. Oh, and did you catch the part where it’s free-to-play? Ubisoft will offer optional “premium items” to “personalize” the game experience, however.
I had a chance to get an early hands-on with the game at Ubisoft’s pre-E3 event, and came away impressed by what Ubisoft’s Singapore studio is building. We were able to choose from one of three classes — Assault, Recon, Specialist — before fiddling around with the game’s weapon customization and load outs. For a free-to-play title, the game looked surprisingly sharp. Ubisoft tells us its aiming for Ghost Recon Online‘s minimum specs to hit the bar for most mid-range PCs.
Applications to get in on this summer’s beta are open now on the game’s official website; the title is slated to be fully launched by year’s end.
