In one of Merida’s previous quests, our Disney Dreamlight Valley protagonist helped her and Flynn Rider settle some disagreements. One mission later, the issues have shifted to Hades, with Merida wanting to foil these plans.
If you agree to help her, you’ll immediately begin the Change Your Fate quest to see what Hades is up to. Let’s dive into it.
Change Your Fate quest walkthrough
Change Your Fate is Merida’s level seven friendship quest following Archery and Archrivals. You need the following requirements to unlock it:
- Merida Level 7
- Unlock Hades, Mulan, Moana, and Mirabel
Upon starting the quest, Merida will ask you to help search her house for a clue on the artifact Hades is searching for. You’ll spot a brown sack on the ground in her home, revealing a memory you can read to learn more about this artifact.
Finding Merida’s best friend
Although it doesn’t reveal its exact location, you’ll learn it’s related to Merida’s best friend – a fierce warrior who is good with a bo staff. She doesn’t remember who this friend is, but you have three options:
- Mulan
- Mirabel
- Moana
Although you can ask each one individually, the friend in question is Mulan.
Finding the Flying Horse Statue
After talking to her about the clue, she’ll mention hiding it under a flying horse statue, prompting you to visit Elysian Fields. As you enter Elysian Fields, you’ll notice two flying horse statues near the Fairy Tale Trial gate where you met Hades. Under the one on the right is a small brown sack, which you’ll need to take a picture of before returning to Merida.
As you both discuss the clue and how to access it, you’ll quickly realize that Mulan did such a good job hiding it that neither of you can reach it. Merida will shoot it with her bow, bringing it to the ground for you to pick up. Inside the bag is a memory with the following hint:
“I left the next clue where the Wolf drinks spilled tea.”

Although you may already know where it is, talking to Merida will confirm that it’s in the Wild Woods near the river. It’ll appear as a purple memory orb close to the Wishing Well’s location.
Eye of a watchful mother riddle answer
With that memory obtained, you’ll find another hint describing the following:
“Finding your place in the world under the eye of a watchful mother.”
This is the one that stumped me the most when I first read it, but fortunately, Merida knows exactly what it means. It’s time to revisit the Library of Lore, enter the wing connected to Everafter, and interact with the globe near the two desks. You’ll find one final clue showing you its exact location: within a cave in The Bind.
Once you teleport or run to The Bind, run to its western half until you reach the waterfall and bookshelves. Although the memory shows a cave, you will only see some bookshelves initially. Interact with them to open the cave, revealing a note from Hades. Uh oh. It’s time to have a quick chat with Hades about this ordeal.
Resolving Merida and Hades’ artifact problem
Now that we’re approaching the end of this situation, Hades will reveal that, although he wanted to try to mess with fate a little, Merida’s artifact ended up being useless to him. He’ll tell you you can have it back and that it’s sitting in his house. You’ll spot the artifact, a shield, next to his throne.
After giving it to Merida, she’ll tell you you can have the artifact, officially marking the end of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Change Your Fate quest.
