It’s finally happened. You’ve entered your Disney Dreamlight Valley world once more and are ready to dive into The Storybook Vale. You’ll immediately begin the Welcome to the Storybook Vale quest, which teaches you more about the world and story ahead.
Welcome to the Storybook Vale quest walkthrough
Welcome to the Storybook Vale begins as soon as you log into Disney Dreamlight Valley after installing the expansion. If you don’t already own the expansion, you can get it on your preferred platform for $29.99 before waiting for its installation to complete.
After logging into Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll find the first objective of opening your mailbox and reading the “The Storybook Vale awaits” letter. The letter mentions a being known as the “Keeper of the Lore,” officially marking the beginning of Storybook Vale’s questline.
Once you read the message, head into Dream Castle, ascend the left staircase, and enter the glowing doors to your left. If you played Rift in Time, you’ll recognize these as the entrance to the airships that bring you to each new world. Otherwise, Merlin will help you find it.
Entering this area brings a new task: embark on the Hummingbird Airship in Stardust Port to visit Storybook Vale. This airship has a floating book icon in front of it and a peculiar hummingbird shape, differentiating it from Rift in Time and other expansions you might pick up in the future.
Finding Merida
Immediately after entering The Storybook Vale for the first time, you’ll notice a few differences from the base game. There are ink blobs everywhere, including the center of the screen where Merida from Brave is trapped. You’ll need to free her before learning more about this new world.
Fortunately, you can clear away the ink by interacting with it, much like you would with regular night thorns. She’ll express her gratitude before answering any questions you have about the Storybook Vale before introducing you to the Lorekeeper.
As you approach the Lorekeeper, you’ll realize they’re a book. It may seem odd at first, but this is one of the most important characters in this story. They’ll eventually feel like a normal recurring character.
Throughout your conversation with the Lorekeeper, they’ll mention using a Royal Net to catch Snippets, small creatures that roam around the Storybook Vale. In obtaining these, you can return them to the Lorekeeper’s pages to restore their magic. However, we need to find that net before we can do any of this.
Finding the Royal Net
Although we know the Royal Net is something in the Library of Lore’s chamber, we don’t know exactly where yet, prompting you to talk to Merida. First, you’ll need to find one of Merida’s potions to help you break the rocks in this area. She’ll mention it’s in a bag somewhere but doesn’t quite remember where.
Once you’re able to control your character again, head toward the campsite next to the library staircase to find a small bag on the floor. Interacting with it gives you the potion, which you can use on your pickaxe to break the nearby stones. There’s even some food for extra energy.
Now that you have an upgraded pickaxe, use it on the stones nearby to reveal a lever. You’ll notice two levers control the center platform. However, you’ll only be able to control two of the four center rings, so your rotations will rely on these initial placements.
Your goal is to turn the circles enough so each line starts the match. Start from the one closest to the center and work your way out until everything matches. Once you complete the puzzle, the Royal Net platform will appear, allowing you to walk up and claim it.
Catching Bird Snippets
Now that you have the net, you’re ready to catch some Snippets. There are two controls for this that depend on your platform: on PC, it’s right-click or spacebar. Pressing the Snippet interact key lets you swing vertically to catch one while holding it does a spin swing that targets anything in a small radius. I normally just use the former, but you’ll need to know the second for future quests.
Once you’re ready to catch them, search around for flying red birds within the Library of Lore. They have a yellow trail behind them to make them easier to see. As you approach one, swing your Royal Net to catch them, sending them into your inventory. Do this four times to finish this part of the Welcome to the Storybook Vale quest.
Opening the Library of Lore wings
After talking to Merida about this, she’ll remark on the picture on the floor looking like Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty before talking about the Snippets again. With that tutorial out of the way, you’ll now need to open the two Library wings to catch more Snippets. Doing this involves golden wheels, which you’ll use your Royal Net to activate. Some wheels require your regular vertical swing, while others are horizontal and require a circle spin.
Starting in the horizontal wheel wing, you’ll find three Red Bird Snippets in the following locations:
- Up the stairs, in front of the desk and globe
- Inside the iron fence room on your left. Requires a vertical wheel swing to open.
- Behind the bookshelves, visible through another iron fence. Requires breaking some boulders to access.
Next, we have the vertical wheel wing. The birds are in very similar locations, as detailed below:
- Up the stairs, flying around the railing.
- Inside a fenced-off area. Requires a horizontal wheel swing to open.
- Behind more bookshelves on the opposite side of the room.
It’s the same pattern as before, so you won’t have to worry about anything too complicated. Once you have all six Bird Snippets, return to the Lorekeeper to start wrapping up the quest.
Rearrange the Once Upon a Time in Storybook Vale story
Before completing the Welcome to the Storybook Vale quest, we first have to rearrange a quick story. Talk to the Lorekeeper and tell them you want to reorder some stories. You’ll find one titled Once Upon a Time in Storybook Vale. Unlocking and opening them gives you several tutorials about arranging the images on the page alongside a blank spot with some lines to guide you.
Once you complete the page, the Lorekeeper will tell you more about the Storybook Vale and its story, including some details on Maleficent and Hades’ part of the ordeal. You can ask more about the Neverafter and these two or jump straight into fixing it. Either way, this conversation wraps up the Welcome to the Storybook Vale quest, leading you directly into the A New Chapter mission with Merida.
