How to make a how to make a Molotov Cocktail in Project Zomboid

Explosives are always useful when it comes to fighting zombies, and Project Zomboid is no exception to this rule. There is a full arsenal of explosives players can use to dispatch the undead, from humble boxes of sparklers to powerful pipe bombs.

One of the most famous in zombie media is the Molotov Cocktail, and you’re able to make your very own while surviving the zombie apocalypse. If you need to know how to make this fiery bottle of death, we’re here to help.

How to craft a Molotov Cocktail in Project Zomboid

There are two different ways you can make a Molotov Cocktail in the Project Zomboid, depending on what items you have. One of the recipes contains the following ingredients:

• 1 Ripped Sheet
• 1 Dirty Rag
• 1 full Bourbon

And the other way to make a Molotov Cocktail is with these ingredients:

• 1 Empty Bottle
• 1 Ripped Sheet
• 1 Dirty Rag

With this second recipe, you’ll need a Gas Can tool as well to have something to catch fire.

In order to use the Molotov Cocktail for its intended purpose, you’ll also need a lighter in your secondary slot so you can set the explosive on fire. 

The ripped sheets can be any kind of ripped cloth you have on hand, however, the only alcohol that will work for the first recipe is the full bourbon. Sadly, no other alcohol will get the job done.

Once you have the proper materials, head into your crafting menu. Under general, you’ll find the Molotov Cocktail recipe. So long as you have everything you need, you can craft as many as you need.

How to use Molotov Cocktails in Project Zomboid

To throw your newly crafted Molotov Cocktail, head into your items and find the explosive. Click on it and equip it as your primary. As mentioned above, you’ll need to find your lighter and equip that as your secondary.

Unfortunately, you cannot use matches in place of a lighter. It simply won’t light the Molotov Cocktail on fire if you try it. 

Get ready to throw the Molotov by holding on the right mouse button, and then aim it using your cursor. You can then throw the Molotov Cocktail using left-click so it will explode wherever you desire. 

Be careful when throwing Molotov’s, since the fire will not distinguish you from any zombies. It can take out a large amount of the undead easily with its flames, but you can also get burnt or even die if you get in the way. I recommend keeping a safe distance or even rounding up zombies into one space and throwing a Molotov, then running off. Keep it far away from your bases.

This explosive is a great way to clear our large groups of zombies in one go, so I highly recommend crafting one if you’ve got the materials.
