Brighter Shores Chef profession guide: How to unlock cooking and all recipes

One of Brighter Shores' best early-game money-makers starts in the kitchen.

When you think of non-combat skills in video games, cooking is one of the most common and helpful you can find. Although Brighter Shores features cooking alongside its Chef profession, there are a few challenging aspects that differentiate it from your typical kitchen work.

That said, cooking is fairly easy to pick up once you learn its core mechanics and how to get various items. Let’s talk about how to start cooking in Brighter Shores, where to find ingredients, and some recipes you’ll unlock early on.

How to unlock the Chef profession in Brighter Shores

After completing Brighter Shores’ tutorial during the main storyline, you’ll venture into Hopeport’s Stone Street and learn about areas like the Apothecary. Across the street from this potion shop is the Delectable Dab Restaurant and Kitchen, where you can begin cooking some dishes.

When you first enter the restaurant’s kitchen, you’ll immediately spot numerous cooking stations and ingredient prep areas. Below is a list of them all:

  • Chef Recipe Book
  • Preparation Table
  • Frying Pan
  • Boiling Pot
  • Ice Box
  • Chopping Table
  • Chef’s Bounty Board
  • Oven
  • Grill
  • Sauce Pan
  • Deep Fryer
  • Batter Barrel

When you first start cooking, you’ll focus on the first three stations. Later on, you’ll have to familiarize yourself with the rest. Fortunately, they don’t have any complicated features to them: you just have to interact with them and wait for your character to finish preparing their ingredients.

After making a few dishes, you can sell them to the Head Chef to make some money or hand them to the Bounty Board for some EXP.

What does the Chef Bounty Board do?

Once you reach level nine cooking, you’ll unlock the Chef Bounty Board in the Delectable Dab Kitchen. You can use this to get extra experience points in exchange for cooking various dishes. Think of these as mini-quests.

You’ll have four bounties available at once, giving you a few options for completing objectives. They’re entirely optional, but they’ll help you level up quickly.

How to get cooking ingredients in Brighter Shores

When cooking in Brighter Shores, you’ll need a mix of ingredients, ranging from fish to produce. Sometimes, you even need processed foods that you can’t find in the wild. You’ll need to rely on leveling your fishing profession and purchasing items from Kevin’s Stall outside of the restaurant.

The exact source will depend on your recipe and the item type. Generally speaking, any fish you encounter will require you to buy a fishing spear and acquire the fish yourself. Alternatively, you can buy them from the Frequently Fresh Fish Stall.

For other items like bacon, bread, and gelatin, you’ll need to visit Kevin outside the Delectable Dab. Although these items cost money, low-level items only require a few hundred coppers, which you’ll make back very quickly as you sell your dishes to the Head Chef.

All cooking recipes in Brighter Shores

Brighter Shores has a slightly different cooking system from what you may be familiar with. Rather than having a list of hundreds of recipes, you initially have 18 to choose from, with each dish having subcategories for increased EXP gain. For example, you can make a simple bacon sandwich at level 0 but unlock a variant at level 345 that uses higher-quality ingredients.

Below is every base cooking recipe in Brighter Shores, including their level ranges and prep stations.
