If you’ve spent a decent amount of hours in Throne and Liberty, chances are high that you have encountered Error 46 at least once.
This specific error is exclusive to PC users, as there have been no reports of it so far from players on the console. Like most errors of Throne and Liberty, the exact cause of this report remains unknown at this point. While NCSoft has released the first major post-launch 1.1.0 patch across all platforms, Error 46 continues to affect the progress of PC players. Thankfully, there are certain steps you can take to solve the problem and prevent it from happening altogether.
How to fix Error 46 in Throne and Liberty
Like most errors, make sure to restart Throne and Liberty if you encounter Error 46. Several major issues, like anti-cheat-related troubles, are known to resolve on their own once you start a fresh iteration of the game. The same could be true in this case, but I actually used another solution.
This potential fix for Error 46 was posted on the game’s subreddit a few days back by user u/Conscious_Ease8344. This method worked like a charm for me when I encountered this error, and there hasn’t been a reemergence since. It appears that if you manage to brick Throne and Liberty, Error 46 could appear. For some undisclosed reason, the problem seems to be with the executable file, which prevents you from running the game normally. Here’s how you can fix the problem.
- Go to the Binaries folder.
- This should be located inside the Throne and Liberty game folder, which is in the Steamapps folder on your PC.
- In Binaries, open the Win64 folder.
- Locate the TL.exe file and delete it.
- Go to your Recycle Bin and remove the deleted file permanently.
Once done, open your Steam library and locate Throne and Liberty. From the settings menu, check the integrity of your downloaded files once. This will redownload the file you deleted earlier and help you run the game normally without any issues.
Do note that the method mentioned here is similar to reinstalling the entire game. However, you’re only deleting a smaller file instead of everything that you had downloaded. Naturally, it will take lot less time for Steam to re-download a smaller file compared to downloading all the files once again.
