Take a moment to sit back and read a book.

Dead Mens’ Tales book location in Fortnite Cursed Sails event

The Dead Mens’ Tales book is located directly west of Grim Gate and south of The Underworld. In these areas, you’ll spot a small building with a table full of books. The Dead Mens’ Tales book is in the center of this table, making it easy for you to read and complete the quest task.

If the quest is active, you’ll spot a question mark icon and sparkles around the book, making it easier to spot. You can complete this right after jumping out of the Battle Bus or wait until later if you have another goal to finish first.

However, watch for other players in the area looking to complete the Pirate Code missions, as they may eliminate you before you get a chance to read the book. Your best bet is to head here early in the match before others pick up weapons so you can avoid a gunfight. Alternatively, you can use this to pick up some quick eliminations from nearby people or finish other quests like listening to Pirate Tales or eliminating in the Underworld.

Once you read the Dead Mens’ Tales book, you’ll instantly complete its Pirate Code objective, bringing you one step closer to finishing all eight codes and unlocking Jack Sparrow’s ship. This is also an easy task you can finish to unlock the fourth set of Pirate Code quests if you’re trying to catch up on the event.
