Once you reach around level 94 on any Job in Final Fantasy XIV, you’ll start to notice that your previously perfectly appropriate gear starts to suddenly feel a little less than adequate. Of course, you can purchase new gear, but why spend the Gil when you can craft it?
Playing through MSQ rewards mid 90s gear for whichever Job you’ve chosen, but what about the other Jobs? High quality gear provides the biggest boost to stats, but at a cost that reflects the upgrade. For low-cost, high quality gear, your best bet is to craft it yourself, but this requires some materials. In particular, drops like Br’aax Hide. You’ll also need Br’aax Hide to complete some Wachumeqimeqi Deliveries.
How to farm Br’aax Hide in Final Fantasy XIV
To get some Br’aax Hide without parting with any Gil, you can head to Yak T’el and take on the beasts in order to get your hands on their skins. They’re relatively low-level, so easy to take on even at level 90.
Close to the Iq Br’aax Aetheryte, you’ll find a relatively large group of level 94 Vawtsaral Br’aax. These are the beasts which drop Br’aax Hide, and the drop rate seems to be pretty good. I’ve taken down a pretty large number of these in my gear crafting endeavours, and usually get between one and three per kill.
How to get Br’aax Hide with Bicolor Gemstones
When it comes to any crafting above level 90, Bicolor Gemstones can be your best friend. Each area has a selection of materials available even if you’ve only completed one FATE in the area, so they’re easy to get.
Br’aax Hide is available from Rral Wuruk in Iq Br’aax (X:13.8, Y:12.7) for (3) Bicolor Gemstones each after you’ve completed least one FATE in Yak T’el. However, if you’ve completed all of your Shared FATEs in each Dawntrail area, you will unlock two further one-stop shop Gemstone Merchants in city hubs who sell all of the materials in a convenient location.
The two city hub Gemstone Merchants in Dawntrail can be found in the following locations:
- Beryl in Solution Nine (X:8.4, Y:14.0)
- Kajeel Ja in Tuliyollal (X:12.8, Y:13.0)
Other ways to get Br’aax Hide in Final Fantasy XIV
Although you can occasionally get small amounts of Br’aax Hide from your Retainers, it is both unlikely and not time-effective to choose this route. You’d need to send your Retainer out on an 18 hour Venture to get a maximum of 15 Hides.
By contrast, you can complete three FATEs and purchase the same number of Hides in less than 10 minutes.
How to use Br’aax Hide in Final Fantasy XIV
Br’aax Hide can be turned into Br’aax Leather by a Leatherworker at level 94 or above using the following recipe:
- 4 Br’aax Hides
- 1 Eblan Alumen (gathered using Miner in Garlemald)
Once this is done, it can then be used to craft a variety of different level 94 – 97 gear pieces for all Jobs, including crafters and gatherers:
- Level 94 Br’aaxskin sets
- Level 95 Dark Mahogany necklaces
- Some pieces of the level 96 Gomphotherium sets
Br’aaxskin Leather will also come in very handy during a particular Wachumeqimeqi Deliveries quest with Pameka, where she will ask you to craft some Moblin Cover Materials.
