For Helldivers 2, its adoration by the community is apparent in the abundance of fan-created works. Before the arrival of that slick CGI fan-made video, another YouTube creator wondered what would happen in a Stalker-fueled mash-up of Helldivers 2 and Predator. The results are amazing.
The video, by the YouTube channel MaleBrotherhood, is titled “When you meet a stalker in Helldivers 2,” and it’s pretty accurate to the name. It’s a short clip, running in at one minute and twenty seconds. The footage is of the famous “CONTACT!” scene from the 1984 action-horror classic, Predator. You know, the one where the team blows the everlasting holy hell out of the rainforest after the character, Mac, sees the shimmering visage of the cloaked Predator for the first time.
It’s been edited with a hilarious Helldivers 2 veneer, swapping out the Predator with everyone’s least-liked Terminid (Hunters are up there, as well). Was it like this for most of us when we first ran into the equally cloaked Stalker enemy? Yes. Yes, it was.
Helldivers 2 and Predator mash-up surprisingly well in a fan video
As a fan of both properties, I love this stuff. Mac seeing the cloaked Stalker before yelling in alarm, followed by him calling down a minigun Stratagem, is all superb and well timed. His fellows quickly join him in the Stalker hunt, all with Helldivers 2 name tags hovering over their heads. I also enjoy the small detail of the fallen Blain now dead and ready for reinforcement. C’mon, you know Mac would have reinforced his old buddy in a heartbeat.
I am an annoying stickler for small details, mind. The video would have been a bit better if the name tags matched the characters’ names (they use the first letter of your handle and a number from one to four).
Regardless, I still dig the video. The Helldivers 2 music fits well with the action, and the “Stalker Nest destroyed” notice at the end is the chef’s kiss. Fan-made work like this shows that we may all be different, but our hatred of those camouflaged bastards can bring us all together in harmony. Now, Arrowhead, I think it’s time to revisit our discussion on the minigun Stratagem.
