The Witcher 3 REDkit is a modding tool for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, built by CD Projekt Red. While there are already mods for the game, this program offers unprecedented access to the tools the development team used to build it. This means fans can craft whatever they want for the game using its native development kit. However, it’s got to go through a playtest first.

To sign up for The Witcher 3 REDkit Playtest, you must visit the official Steam page and hit the Request Access button. This will add you to the list of users who have requested access, but it won’t guarantee you getting into the playtest.

CD Project Red explained in a news post on Steam that access to The Witcher 3 REDkit is going to be distributed in waves. This means you will likely get access to it eventually, but it depends on where you are in the queue and how many users are given access with each wave.

You must own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to access and use The Witcher 3 REDkit. The tool would be pretty useless without it because it’s built specifically to mod that one game, not as a modding tool for multiple titles.

When is the release date for The Witcher 3 REDkit?

At the time of writing, CD Project Red has confirmed The Witcher 3 REDkit will be made available to all owners of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt later in 2024. However, the exact release date and the date it will be distributed for the playtest aren’t known at the time of writing. The fact that CD Project Red is taking access requests indicates that access will be distributed pretty soon, though.

Once The Witcher 3 REDkit is live, creators will be able to submit their mods to the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s Steam Workshop page. At the time of writing, this is also currently in beta but will be fleshed out fully for the tool’s final release date. Eventually, it’s also where you’ll be able to grab mods for the main game and start using them with ease.
