One of the most popular and famous materials players can gather in Minecraft is the elusive diamond. Diamond lets players create some of the most powerful and sturdy gear in the game, ranging from pickaxes to swords to chest plates and so much more. To help you find diamond faster, here are the best diamond levels and locations in Minecraft.
Where to find diamond in Minecraft
Minecraft uses a coordinates system for indicating where you are in any given world. This system shows the player’s location on the X, Y, and Z-axes at all times. For the purpose of getting diamonds, you want to focus on the Y-axis, which is the second number when it comes to your in-game location. This number changes as you go up and down throughout the world.
Diamond begins to spawn from Y: 11 and below. For reference, you might spawn into your world at a level of around 50-60, depending on the seed. You’ll have to dig down a bit to start finding diamond. That said, your chances of finding diamond at the 11th level of the world is quite slim compared to the ones further down. As such, you want to keep digging to find the best diamond levels.
Best diamond levels in Minecraft, explained
The best diamond levels in Minecraft are quite far down and pretty dangerous. Any levels from -50 and below are some of the best in the game for finding diamond spawns more commonly. However, there are a few levels, in particular, that have higher chances of spawning diamond blocks than others.
These are the best diamond levels you should explore:
- -50
- -54
- -58
- -59
- -64
Go to those negative levels and you will have the best chances of finding diamond. This is due to the increased spawn rates those levels have for diamond blocks. Be wary, as lava pools often have increased chances of showing up this far down as well. Digging recklessly can result in you falling to your doom if you aren’t careful.
Where to find diamond in caves
While many people opt for the method to just dig straight down to find diamonds in Minecraft, this isn’t always the best solution. Updates in the past from Mojang made finding diamonds in caves far more lucrative. Caves that are on the levels between -64 and 8 on the Y-axis have even better chances of spawning diamond blocks than wandering around aimlessly.
You’ll know a cave when you stumble upon a pre-built massive open area underground. Just be careful in those locations, as enemies can spawn here in the darkness. Be sure to set up torches everywhere and equip some proper gear when exploring these caves for diamonds.
