Barrel aged for flavor

One of the things you can do with Pale Ale you produce in Stardew Valley is age it in a Cask.

This not only improves the quality of the Ale, but also how much it sells for. There are some steps involved to unlock the Cask, but don’t worry I can talk you through it.  Immediately out of the Keg, Pale Ale is worth 300 Gold when sold. However, aging it within a Cask can increase its worth to 600 Gold.

How to get a Cask in Stardew Valley

Casks are automatically available once you upgrade your Farmhouse to level three and unlock the Cellar. The Cellar comes with 33 Casks already in place, though you can place as many as 189 down there. The recipe for additional Casks also unlocks automatically upon unlocking the Cellar.

To make extra Casks, you’ll need:

  • 20 Wood
  • 1 Hardwood

Pale Ale is made by placing Hops into a Keg. Once you’ve produced some Pale Ale, head down into your Cellar and place it into a Cask. Each stage of aging takes a certain number of days and will increase the value and quality of the Pale Ale.

You can take your Pale Ale out of the Cask at any time, but this is how long you should leave it in for each quality increase:

What else can be matured in Stardew Valley?

There are a few foods and alcoholic beverages, other than Pale Ale, which can be matured using a Cask, but each of them has its own specific aging process in terms of how much time it takes.

Wine is always worth 3x the value of the original Fruit used when making it, but maturing increases this value by the same amount as it would for anything else.
