Where to find the mushrooms for the cooking pot in Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley

No one likes a hungry Muskrat.

Most of the few quests in Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley that you don’t get a map marker for is barely even telegraphed as a quest. Early on, you’ll encounter a creature, a Muskrat, looking sad next to an empty cooking pot. The only guidance you get is that three mushrooms are required for the recipe, but you’ll have no idea how to get them.

To complete this quest, you’ll have to find three mushrooms for the poor, hungry Muskrat. Two are similarly shaped, short, and fat, while the last one is a bit skinnier. That’s all the information you have to go on, and because of that lack of direction, it makes for one of the most intriguing quests. No, you’re not going to be hopping into a quick cooking minigame here, but thankfully, finding these mushrooms isn’t too difficult if you know where to look.

To find the mushrooms for Muskrat’s cooking pot in Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, you need to explore the game world until you reach the main explorable section that comes after the encounter with the Groke. From there, you’ll be able to unlock new paths and start picking up the game’s major quests. See the above map for the exact location of the cooking pot, marked by Snufkin’s hat.

The short, fat mushrooms, Porcini Mushrooms, are located on the left-hand side of the island. the exact location is shown in the above map by Snufkin’s hat. It’s on the edge of the shore, close to the beach but below the dried-up riverbed. There are two in this area, so keep an eye out, and you should naturally pick up the exact number you need.

The second mushroom you must collect is the Chanterelle Mushroom. This one takes longer to find because it’s in a part of the map that you won’t explore unless you’re heading there for experience or items. No quests are located around here. As shown in the map above by Snufkin’s hat, it’s off the path between quest markers on the left-hand side of the map. To get there, you’ll need to use an instrument and wade through some thick grass. There are two to collect, so explore all the tall grass to grab them both.

What happens when you fill the cooking pot in Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley?

Once you’ve collected every mushroom for the cooking pot in Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, you must deliver them to Muskrat. After a brief conversation, you’ll be rewarded with an increase to Snufkin’s base stamina, allowing him to run for longer. There’s no need to get this to complete the game, but it does make rushing from place to place much easier.

Completing the mushroom recipe for Muskrat will also unlock a new cooking pot recipe to complete. By the time I’d done this, I had the two additional Porcini Mushrooms this recipe requires. The only thing I was missing was the Nettle, which you can’t get until you progress much deeper into the game’s story. Enjoy your time in Moominvalley for now, and return to Muskrat once you’ve completed Mominpapa’s boat and sailed it out to a certain island.
