When a major game with cross-platform play comes out, fans want to know what platforms it’ll be on. Since Tekken 8 isn’t exclusive to the big first parties, is it coming to the Switch? Here’s what we know below.
Is Tekken 8 coming to the Nintendo Switch?
If you are holding out for a port of this to come to Nintendo’s hybrid console, you shouldn’t. With Tekken 8 only being available for PC and the current generations of PlayStation and Xbox, it’s an indicator of what type of power is needed to run the game.
Tekken 7 never came out for the Switch either, despite the game’s ongoing success after many seasons of new characters and balance changes. It’s just that with previous fighting game Switch ports, many compromises have to be made so that they run properly.
We can’t really make the assumption that hardware restraints prevent ports to the Switch, but if Mortal Kombat 1 is any indicator, it’s a safe one to make.
We can’t also outright say that the game will never come to a Nintendo console either. After all, it has technically appeared on Nintendo hardware before, with Tekken Advance on the GBA. With more and more rumblings about new hardware on the horizon, there can be a sliver of hope. Bandai Namco and Katsuhiro Harada have neither confirmed nor denied anything.
If you’re really itching to play Tekken 8, you will have to concede and get it on either the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, or PC. Luckily, this game does offer cross-play, so you can play with anyone who opts to do that as well.
Unless you’re very patient and waiting to see if some kind of definitive edition of the game comes out in a year or two (and maybe on Nintendo’s new rumored and overdue home console), you can go ahead. It’s a “never say never” situation here.
