How to make a Workbench, Construction Hammer in Enshrouded

Build your dream home

Like any game with a focus on building, there are some items in Enshrouded that you can make with a few supplies and your bare hands, but if you really want to dig into the crafting system you’ll need a workbench and a construction hammer.

The workbench is one of the first things that  the game will prompt you to build after you’ve picked a spot for your first base. Gather at least three string and eight wood logs, and you’re ready to go. The workbench is the second option down under “Essentials” in your basic crafting menu. The construction hammer is directly under it, and it only requires a single stone to build. Maybe that makes it more of a construction rock than a true hammer?

What do I need these for, anyway?

The workbench and construction hammer go hand-in-hand when it comes to base building. You can use the workbench to turn raw materials like stone, flint, and wood into blocks that are the basic materials for creating buildings. The workbench also lets you combine string and wood logs to make pre-built scaffolds that really come in handy when you’re adding multiple floors to your buildings.

Once you’ve got some blocks built, you use the construction hammer to place them around your base. The hammer lets you enter build mode and transforms your blocks into a variety of shapes like stairs, doorways, and even landscaping terrain like boulders. Don’t miss the “More Shapes” option – it’s bound to the Alt key on PC – because that will let you switch between shapes of different sizes. Having one meter, two meter, and four meter options made getting more creative with my builds pretty easy. I’m no architect, though, so my house still looks a bit like a five-year-old’s Lego creation.

I should also point out that the workbench can be used to make way more than basic building blocks. It has options for various beds, doors, and windows, and it gives you multiple options for light sources – like a classic fireplace or creepy skull candle. It’s also where you go to make two of the most important traversal tools in the game: the glider and the grappling hook.
