Is Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince turn based?

Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince going turn-based would only make sense. Square Enix and the Dragon Quest series have a long-running tradition of turn-based RPGs; here’s what we know.

Is Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince turn-based only?

Many modern Square Enix fans love the action RPG mechanics of the Kingdom Hearts series and recent Final Fantasy titles. Despite my disappointment, my father and sister think turn-based battle systems are dull. Unfortunately, for action RPG fans, The Dark Prince is turn-based only.

However, millions of RPG fans love to play Pokemon every year despite it being turn-based. The Dark Prince follows a similar format. You’re collecting monsters throughout the world and training them to be better in battle. You can even synthesize them to create a new, stronger creature. It’s kind of a mix between Pokemon, the Persona series, and traditional Dragon Quest mechanics.

Can you speed up the combat?

After finishing the tutorial section, you can make the combat faster and activate auto-battle. You can order your monsters to fight however you’d like, but you can also leave them to their own decisions as well. This is great for grinding if you need to give your monsters experience.

Another neat feature is that you have reserves that you can drop in if one of your main creatures is struggling. I’ve had fun so far with the turn-based battle system, to the chagrin of my family members. There’s a free demo you can try to see if you dig Dragon Quest Monsters The Dark Prince‘s combat or not.
