Kirara is a 4-star shielder in Genshin Impact. Despite having a Dendro vision, her off-field Dendro application is virtually nonexistent. This can make team-building a challenge. Let’s look at some of Kirara’s best teammate options.
Best teams for Kirara mains
As a Kirara main, you probably want Kirara on-field in her adorable cat-box form. Using her hold Skill generates a shield and turns her into a small box with legs. Bumping into enemies in this form deals a small amount of Dendro damage. The damage isn’t high enough to justify a Quicken team, but the Dendro application enables some unique Hyperbloom or Nilou Bloom teams.
An important quirk of Kirara’s Skill is that she cannot use Normal Attacks while in her box form. This prevents her from being able to trigger effects that proc with Normal Attacks, like Xingqiu, Yelan, or Beidou’s Bursts.
Hyperbloom
Hyperbloom teams combine Dendro, Electro, and Hydro. Your Electro options are straightforward: choose either Raiden Shogun or Kuki Shinobu and build them with as much Elemental Mastery as possible.
Hydro is trickier since you want consistent off-field Hydro that doesn’t impede Kirara’s mobility. Xingqiu’s orbital swords and Nilou’s Tranquility Aura can both apply Hydro and move with Kirara, though it makes poor use of the rest of their kits. If you don’t mind being constrained to a certain area, Kokomi and Ayato can work as well, though Ayato’s Energy Recharge needs will be monstrous.
The last slot can be another off-field Dendro or Electro character of your choice. Nahida and Fischl work great here. Alternatively, Anemo characters like Kazuha or Sucrose will help with grouping and deal some Swirl damage.
Since Kirara will mostly be treated as a Dendro applier, you should focus on her shield so that she does not die while on-field. Give her Favonius Sword and artifacts with HP and CRIT Rate. Kirara should be able to proc the Favonius passive at least twice while on-field, generating lots of Energy for her team.
Example Hyperbloom teams
Kirara – Kuki Shinobu – Furina – Baizhu
Kirara – Raiden – Kokomi/Xingqiu/Nilou – Flex
Nilou Bloom
Nilou significantly buffs the Bloom reaction, at the cost of limiting you to only Dendro and Hydro teammates. Kirara and Nilou make up one Dendro and one Hydro slot, so your last two team slots can be any Dendro or Hydro characters. I recommend two Dendro and two Hydro units for your best chance at triggering as many Blooms as possible.
Kirara’s shield does a decent job of protecting you from Bloom self-damage, but you will still want a healer on your team, especially with Furina. Baizhu is best for this. Kokomi is an effective healer, but you will be somewhat constrained to the AoE of her jellyfish. Barbara’s Skill has less than 50% uptime, but at least it follows Kirara and applies Hydro around her.
Though Kirara will trigger some reactions in this team, I still recommend a full HP build. Elemental Mastery substats are nice, but due to the sheer amount of damage that Kirara must tank, having a strong shield is a must. Favonius Sword is still helpful, but less essential for Nilou teams.
Example Nilou Bloom teams
Kirara – Nilou – Nahida/Dendro Traveler – Kokomi/Barbara
Kirara – Nilou – Baizhu – Furina
Best free-to-play Kirara teams
Kirara is still fully usable with minimal 5 stars. Unless you want to main Kirara by having her on-field, I recommend keeping her off-field as a pure shielder. Even as an off-field shield support, do not use her tap Skill. Instead, hold the Skill button until you see Kirara turn into a box, and then immediately cancel it by pressing the Skill button again. This combo takes less than a second longer to perform but generates more Energy and results in a stronger shield.
Aside from the examples below, you can also bring Kirara anytime you need a shielder, even if you don’t make use of her Dendro element.
Quicken / Hyperbloom
Quicken teams combine Dendro and Electro to increase the damage of both. Hyperbloom teams are pretty similar but with an added Hydro unit. Since Kirara will be off-field, you can have another teammate on-field using Normal Attacks.
Kirara should be built with as much HP as possible for maximum shield strength. Equipping her with Favonius Sword and some CRIT Rate allows her to generate some Energy for her allies, even if she only procs the passive once per rotation.
