How to get the Cryo Freeze mod on your weapon

First, you’re going to need to get the Cryo Freeze mod on your weapon. the absolute easiest way to do this is to craft the Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod via Schematic Crafting. You can do this directly from the pre-game menu, and then drop into Zombies with the Cryo Freeze Ammo Mod to put it on your weapon.

However, it’s very possible you won’t have this schematic unlocked this early in your missions. In this case, you will need to find the Cryo Freeze mod somewhere to add it to your weapon. The best way of doing this is to run around and clear Aether Nests and Infested Strongholds. Each time you clear one out, which should only take a couple of minutes, you will get access to an Aether Chest. In my experience, each of these chests has one of the five weapon ammo mods in it, so it shouldn’t take long to find the Cryo Freeze Mod to add to your weapon.

Where to find Hellhounds in MW3 Zombies

In MW3 Zombies, the Hellhounds can technically spawn everywhere. They often spawn near Infested areas including Aether Nests and Strongholds. However, they can also spawn with other zombie groups simply when a player enters their spawn radius.

If you look at the map above, this is the best route I found when trying to find and farm the Hellhounds. Basically, you want to hop in a vehicle and continue in a loop around the main highway on the map.If you are following the map, you’ll want to follow the bright green route.

Depending on your luck, you can finish this mission in one rotation or two. Slowly drive through each area looking on both sides of the road to see if any Hellhounds are nearby or spawning once you get closer. If after a route or two you haven’t completed the Freezer Burn mission, you can start venturing onto the side roads in the medium-difficulty areas as indicated by the darker green routes in the map above.

You have probably noticed that this recommended route is primarily in the orange medium-difficulty area. Not only do the Hellhounds have a higher spawn chance in those areas, but there’s also another reason you want to look for them in that tougher zone.

How to successfully slow the Hellhounds with Cryo Freeze

There are a few things to keep in mind to increase your chances of actually slowing the Hellhounds with Cryo Freeze. Each time you shoot the Hellhound with a weapon equipped with the Cryo Freeze mod, you have a chance to slow it. Keep in mind that just seeing the frost icon does not mean you slowed it, that just means you dealt freeze damage. You will know when you successfully slow a Hellhound when you see it start getting encapsulated in ice.

The fact that it’s a numbers game based on a chance to slow, there are ways to increase your chances. First off, being in the medium-difficulty area means that the Hellhounds here have a bit more health. That’s more chances to slow the Hellhound with each hit before it dies to your damage. In the easy-difficulty area, you can often one or even two-shot Hellhounds, meaning you can kill many without triggering the slow.

Another tip here is to use a high rate-of-fire but lower-damage weapon that you put the Cryo Freeze mod on. Once again, this just means you will be able to have more chances of triggering the slow effect when you are shooting at a Hellhound.

Finally, this last tip is not a necessity, but it does help. This mission is a lot easier to do when you have a friend with you. If your friend drives the vehicle around the routes on the map above, you can sit on top of the vehicle and look around for Hellhounds and shoot them as you see them. It’s not necessary but it can make things a bit easier and faster.

Now that you know how to find and slow 10 Hellhounds with Cryo Freeze in MW3 Zombies, you should be able to complete the Freezer Burn Tier 3 mission.
