I never imagined how nostalgic I’d be for the Fortnite OG map. As I embarked on the battle bus for the first time in a while, I felt myself longing for locations like Lucky Landing, Risky Reels, and yes, even Tilted Towers. The experience reminded me of a simpler time, the distant year of 2019.
But it also got me thinking: In the year 2023, there are likely Fortnite players who weren’t around to play in the OG map before it was the OG map. So if that happens to be you, here are my favorite places to drop on the OG map. These locations are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to the amount of loot, as well as how long said loot lasted me as I ventured forth into the wilds.
Best places to drop in Fortnite OG
5. Wailing Woods
Wailing Woods gets the number five spot primarily because in my experience, there isn’t a lot of easily accessible loot. And when you’re stuck in Wailing Woods’ maze, you need to ensure you can pack a punch. I was able to make it pretty far dropping here, but only because I got lucky enough to land a shotgun and managed to quickly dispatch any unfortunate souls who also landed here.
4. Tilted Towers
Back in the day, I rarely — if ever — landed at Tilted Towers. I wasn’t a fan of how chaotic things could get if you were unlucky enough not to beat the other players to a chest or two. In the years since, my feelings towards this chaotic nightmare have softened, but I would not recommend landing here until you are somewhat experienced in handling tough situations. Or, if you’re just looking to channel chaos.
3. Lucky Landing
I think Lucky Landing was my absolute favorite spot to land in the olden days. If you can beat others to the temple on its outskirts, you can claim a hefty amount of loot in the basement, the ground floor, and even on the top floor. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as this relatively small area has a lot of buildings, and most if not all of them have treasure to plunder.
2. Risky Reels
I always enjoyed visiting Risky Reels when dropping with a squad, since a group can watch each other’s backs. It’s a wide, open space with a ton of loot, though that can be a blessing or a curse. The lack of cover space at Risky Reels as opposed to Lucky Landing, for example, makes it a hive for inexperienced players meeting an early end.
1. Loot Lake
Like with Risky Reels, Loot Lake has a ton of wide, open space. But, unlike Risky Reels, there’s plenty of cover (and loot) if you know where to check. If you can find a scoped weapon, or even a non-scoped burst assault rifle or something similar, you can clean house so long as your aim is halfway decent. Just be careful, because like Tilted Towers, things at Loot Lake can get out of hand quickly.
