Ready to return to the Dark Worlds? According to a press release, Deltarune Chapter 3 is close to completion and a change in release is incoming. Deltarune will go on sale once its fourth chapter is finished, rather than waiting for the fifth.
Earlier today, Toby Fox celebrated the fifth anniversary of Deltarune‘s original release. He also provided an update on the highly anticipated third chapter of Deltarune. The newest chapter is playable from start to finish, but not ready to be released. “Obviously, releasing a game takes many more steps than just finishing the gameplay and graphics,” states Fox.
However, he mentions that work has started on the fourth chapter, which his team is very excited to continue. “When we started Chapter 3, to be honest, it took a lot of trial and error to figure out how it would work,” says Fox. “But, with Chapter 4, I already feel very confident about how we can progress.”
Shifting release plans
Originally, Deltarune, a spiritual successor to Fox’s Undertale, was going to get a full release after Chapter 5. Now, the game will be available to purchase after Chapter 4‘s release. Speaking on the subject, Fox brings up “My original plan was to release Chapter 3, 4, and 5 together. However, the finish line of Chapter 5 is still pretty far off… and I don’t think anybody really wants to wait that long to release anything. Especially me.”
In anticipation of Chapter 4, the Deltarune team has added a new producer to help speed up the process. As Chapter 2 released in 2021, the news of quicker releases for future chapters will make many hearts skip a beat. Speaking of Chapter 2, Fox shared an interview with the team that talks about the process of creating the game.
No release date or price was given for the full game, though the original Undertale (PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch) was $14.99. Deltarune Chapters 1 and 2 are available for free on PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
