Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) Critical Role Easter Egg

Critical Role shows up in some surprising places

Critical Role started streaming Dungeons and Dragons games back in 2015. Over the years the live-play show has brought tons of new fans to the game. The show has had such an impact on D&D that it’s only natural for it to get a nod from a game like Baldur’s Gate 3.

The game actually acknowledges the impact that Critical Role has had on D&D in more ways than one. First Larian Studios snuck Critical Role’s Dungeon Master Matt Mercer into the game. They could have offered him a small cameo, but instead let him voice a core companion. Minsc is one of the few characters to return from previous titles. You can first encounter him in the sewers in Act 3.

Players have also discovered a little Easter egg that implies someone at Larian is a true Critical  Role fan. Sitting in the Elfsong Tavern in the Lower City of Baldur’s Gate are two characters that any fan of the show will find familiar. One looks almost exactly like Ashley Johnson’s character Pike Trickfoot, a Gnome Cleric. The other appears to be Travis Willingham’s Grog Strongjaw, a Goliath Barbarian.

Everyone was delighted to catch this little nod to two beloved characters. Critical Role is still the biggest live-play show around, so this Easter egg is just another way that Larian Studios can show they’re just as big of D&D fans as their players.
