If I had a nickel for every situation in Starfield where it was up to me to spare or kill a major character in a faction questline, I’d have two nickels. It’s not a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice. So far. Yes, like with the Freestar Collective, the Ryujin questline puts an NPC’s life in your hands. You have the chance to spare or kill Imogene in the ‘Guilty Parties’ Starfield quest.
Is Imogene guilty? The evidence you find in the previous mission, Background Checks, certainly seems to prove it. However, it’s not as clear-cut as it was with ol’ Ron Hope. He was guilty as sin and seemed damn proud of it. But things are different with Imogene. After you confront her at the end of Guilty Parties, it becomes clear she believes herself to be innocent. And she has evidence that points to Ularu as the true culprit. So, what’s the plan?
What happens when you kill or spare Imogene in Starfield?
You have a couple of options if you choose to kill Imogene. Either fire on her once you enter the room she’s in or choose the [Attack] option during the conversation. Once she’s dead, you can loot her body for a slate containing the evidence she spoke of and extra gear. The slate does indeed prove her innocence, making you kind of an ass. Once Imogene is dead, you can hide her innocence or absolve her later by giving the evidence to Dalton. The questline continues without interruption.
If you decide to spare Imogene, she remains in Starfield as an NPC, and you can bring her back to Ryujin. But it won’t happen until after the final quest, Executive Level, is complete. If you spare her and prove her innocence, she returns once everything is over. You’ll find her in her office once more. She is the one who introduces you to your own office and gives you access to the mission board. If you kill her, the one who gives you mission board access will either be Ularu or Masako, depending on who you side with.
