Console versions of Phasmophobia delayed again

Not arriving for spooky season, unfortunately.

Kinetic Games has announced that the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PSVR2 versions of the cooperative horror game Phasmophobia have been delayed once again beyond its planned October date.

The first time Phasmophobia’s console version was delayed was due to an office fire. Kinetic Games’ post suggests that their new release date of October was a little too ambitious. They state that the latest delay is due to issues adapting after the fire.

“As we still try to adapt to our new remote working life after the fire incident and to establish a new office, we’ve encountered unforeseen challenges in adapting the game for consoles. These combined factors have affected our development timeline more than we initially anticipated.”

I feel that’s completely understandable, but it’s still a bit of a bummer for console players who want to hunt ghosts with friends this Hallowe’en season. While they don’t have a revised date, the team is working to get the wrinkles ironed out and “minimize the impact of this delay.”

What’s blocking the camera?

Phasmophobia was released into Steam Early Access on September 18, 2020. It quickly exploded in popularity, and a number of imitators filled the market soon after that. In it, you and your friends explore various environments and use an assortment of detection equipment to try and nail down what kind of ghost is haunting the area. All the while, you have to try and avoid attacks from said ghost.

I played it with friends a while back, and I’m exactly the type of person you don’t want to play Phasmophobia with. Since I’m generally immune to the scares of video game horror, I spent most of my time screwing around with the environment, intentionally obstructing my teammates, and trying to scare them by flickering the lights, abandoning them during investigations, and being where I wasn’t supposed to be. My favorite activity was dropping tubes of caulk in front of surveillance cameras and gathering every instance of a particular item into the van.

Good times.

Phasmophobia is currently available on PC via Early Access. The Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PSVR2 versions have been delayed to an unspecified date.
