The announcement was made via a screenshot of a notepad document, causing some to wonder if this was a joke in poor taste, but the studio confirmed in the replies that it was really closing down. In the announcement, the team said the closure is primarily due to a lack of resources for its next game.

“We’re not writing off the possibility of working on some small stuff together in the future but for now we’re all going our separate ways,” the post said.

In the replies, one user asked about crowdfunding, to which the account responded that “we’ve discussed it before but it’s never quite made sense for our situation, unfortunately.”

As for the rather crude means of conveying this message, the studio said no one on the team wanted to make “a professional-looking closure announcement with the logo on it and everything.”

Boomerang X launched on July 21, 2021 for PC via both Steam and the Epic Game Store, as well as the Nintendo Switch. It currently has an “overwhelmingly positive” review score on Steam. In the replies of the announcement, it was confirmed that the game will continue to be sold despite the studio’s closure.
