In a Twitter post, General Manager of Diablo Rod Fergusson indicated that Diablo 4 Season 2, Season of Blood, has so much new stuff that two deep dive streams are already planned to cover it all. No dates for the streams have been revealed as of now, but it’s a promising glimpse into the near future of Diablo 4.
Season 1, Season of the Malignant, has been pretty disappointing, to say the least. Sweeping nerfs hit the action RPG with the seasonal update, making the experience feel slower and less fun than the pre-season. To make things worse, the season itself doesn’t have much meaningful new content.
If there’s enough new content to justify two separate deep dive streams, it may be a bigger season than expected.
What we know so far
Players were shocked to see Season of Blood revealed at Gamescom opening night, just over a month after the first season began. Thematically, the new season will focus on an army of ravenous vampires plaguing Sanctuary. Season 2 will feature a new quest line where you learn to hunt the hunter.
Gameplay-wise, the new season will add five endgame bosses as well as ways to target farm Uniques and Uber Uniques. Additionally, several quality-of-life enhancements are on the way. Renown rewards will now carry over to all characters, and gems will no longer take up inventory space. A revamp of elemental resistances as well as updates to several stats is also coming.
Blizzard plans to support Diablo 4 for a long time, so it’s hard to say they need Season 2 to work out. However, after a disappointing first season, a better second season can show players it’s heading in the right direction. Most ARPGs that are thriving now like Path of Exile took a few seasons to find their footing.
Diablo 4‘s Season 2, Season of Blood, officially begins on October 17 on all platforms. The current season, Season of the Malignant, will also come to an end on the same day.
