Tick, tick, boom
Expanding your inventory is very useful in Final Fantasy XVI. It means you can carry more precious consumables into battle. But to add some space, you’ll need to bag a Bomb King off the Hunt Board of Final Fantasy XVI.
The Bomb King is a Notorious Mark, introduced in the side quest “Weird Science”. In order to expand your inventory spaces, you’ll need to get the details on the monster from the Hunt Board, set out in pursuit, and ultimately bring down the king of the Bombs. Let’s get tracking.
Bomb King location & directions in Final Fantasy XVIÂ (FF16)
Per the Hunt Board directions, the Bomb King is located in an area called The Crock in Sanbreque. But if you haven’t been there before, you probably don’t have it on your map. You’ll want to use the clues and ascertain that the group that saw the Bomb King went towards the Imperial Chase but got distracted by some Fallen airship ruins.
If you head to The Dragon’s Aery Obelisk and follow the eastern edge of the map down, you’ll eventually reach a pathway that you can dip into. Head down that way, then left at the fork before the small town area, and into the ruins to fight the Bomb King of Final Fantasy XVI.
Final Fantasy XVIÂ (FF16) Bomb King tips & tricks
By this point, you’ve probably fought a decent number of Bombs. The Bomb King brings similar, though more powerful, abilities to the fight. Look out for Coronation, a big fireball that can leave a lingering blaze. If you have Heatwave as an Eikonic ability, you can easily use that to absorb magic attacks and fire back powerful waves at the King.
One important move to look out for is where the Bomb King summons additional bombs. This isn’t just an add phase, but also leads directly into a move called King’s Justice. It’s a devastating explosion that can do a lot of damage if you’re caught up in it, and seemed to scale off how many Bombs were still on the field.
My tip is, when the additional Bombs spawn around the Bomb King, use a big AoE attack to wipe them out as soon as possible. Phoenix’s Flames of Rebirth is great for this, as is Titan’s Upheaval. Anything that can do area damage and a lot of it will help.
Otherwise, watch out for the flames and you should make it through this fight just fine. Beat the Bomb King, and then make sure to pick up the ash it drops afterwards.
Take the ash back to the hideaway, and you can turn it in for an expansion of your potion carrying capacity. It’ll help a lot in the many, many battles to come in Final Fantasy XVI.
