Insomniac has confirmed that its upcoming comic-book sequel Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will deliver an “epic, single-player experience” when it arrives on PS5 later this year, seemingly shutting down recent whispers that the studio was developing a co-op title for its latest adventure.

Insomniac quietly made the confirmation in a simple Twitter response to a fan who straight-up asked the studio if there was any truth in the rumors — rumors that suggested Peter Parker and Miles Morales would be teaming up for double arachnid action across the rooftops of Manhatten. But Insomniac succinctly noted that Spider-Man 2 is being developed as another single-player title, much like the original Marvel’s Spider-Man and its excellent spin-off Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

All that said, the new sequel is expected to feature both characters, suggesting twin campaigns with the player swapping between each. It is believed that the duo will meet up with various allies and enemies from the Marvel universe, eventually leading to the gunky doorstep of the vicious symbiote, Venom. The alien antagonist will be voiced by Candyman star and unquestionable horror legend Tony Todd.

If you’d like to get an early start on the new sequel’s narrative, then be sure to check out the tie-in comic book, released by Marvel for Free Comic Book Day. You can check out our report on the issue here.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to launch on PS5 later in 2023.
