Good luck
A commonly cited estimate on the runtime of the original release of Resident Evil 4 is 15-20 hours for the main campaign, so can you expect the same from the 2023 remake? The short answer is yes. The long answer isn’t much more complicated.
Despite having a deadline to make on my review, I’m forever a “stop and smell the dead cow” kind of girl. I keep Leon “Superplex” Kennedy at his walking pace when it seems appropriate and scour the environments for items and treasures. While I didn’t collect every treasure hidden, nor did I S rank every firing range, I did a lot of backtracking and picked up everything I could. In the end, my PS5 has me clocked at about 18 hours. That’s for everything, including lingering on the pause menu to make tea and watching the credits.
If you rush, you might be able to cut that time closer to 15 hours in finishing the campaign. Ignoring challenges, not spending time in the shooting range, and only picking up treasures in your path will shorten your adventure. Likewise, if you know the original version of Resident Evil 4 like the back of your hand, you will likely be able to shave off some minutes. There’s a lot of stuff moved around, but the essentials are generally the same.
Regardless, Resident Evil 4 is a rather lengthy campaign from an era in gaming where 20 hours was the golden rule of runtime. After completion, professional mode is unlocked, there are additional extras to gain access to, and Mercenaries mode will be coming down the pipe eventually.
