Recently, MTV sat down with movie star Sigourney Weaver and asked her about the possibilities of voicing her film characters in either of the upcoming Sega-published Aliens games. Interestingly, Weaver revealed that she wouldn’t voice one of the Aliens games because the script was too naughty. From the interview:
They wanted me to do Ripley and I said, Well you have Ripley killing aliens but also sick people and other marines! And every other word out of my mouth was a curse word. I’m not a nun or anything, but I said, ‘This is not true to the character.’ And they also showed me six video games and said it was going to be made by this company. There was one called Rednecks where they shoot animals. The whole thing was so ridiculous.
As MTV Multiplayer noted, Sega hasn’t actually talked to Weaver about either of the two Aliens games. So, the game she was referring to is really anyone’s guess, but it could have been Xatrix Entertainment’s Redneck Rampage, which would then indicate that the ill-fated developer was working on an Aliens title. Xatrix spawned the sci-fi action game Cyberia and its sequel before changing their name to Grey Matter. As Grey Matter they worked on Call of Duty content in coordination with Treyarch. The pieces are there if Weaver was correct on the title.
In the end, Weaver leaves us with a lot of wonder and a hilarious quote. I almost wish that Ripley was a nun, or that the Aliens game had a Ripley style character bringing her pious fist down on a Martian horde. That’s good entertainment, Sega. Make it happen.
