If you say “Ocarina” to most gamers, chances are good that they will imagine a small boy in a green tunic long before they consider the actual musical instrument. The same could be said of pedophiles, but let’s just focus on gamers for the moment.
The St. Louis Ocarina Store owes a lot to the revered Legend of Zelda title, Ocarina of Time. When the store opened in 2005, it quickly learned that Zelda fans and Ocarina enthusiasts crossed paths quite considerably, and now has an entire Web page dedicated to Zelda-themed instruments. In order to thank OoT for everything it has done, the store has announced its celebration of the game’s tenth anniversary.
“We have had an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from Zelda fans and video game enthusiasts,” explains St. Louis School of Music director Dr. Dennis Yeh. “Our Zelda items quickly became bestsellers – and we are happy to be celebrating the game’s tenth anniversary in our store this month.”
Isn’t that lovely? It’s nice to see educators paying due respect to videogames, rather than besmirching them at every opportunity.
