The series will star Aloy too
The Horizon Zero Dawn series at Netflix has picked up a notable name. The Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman is developing the Horizon Netflix series.
In a Tudum interview, Blackman confirms he’s developing the series, alongside upcoming space drama Orbital. He also says that the Netflix Horizon Zero Dawn series will star Aloy, the protagonist of the Horizon video games.
“Horizon Zero Dawn is an exceptionally well-crafted game with wonderful characters not often seen in the rank-and-file of the gaming world,” said Blackman. “Guerrilla Games has created an incredibly lush and vivid world of man and machine who find themselves on a collision course to oblivion. Their salvation comes in the form of a young female warrior named Aloy, who has no idea she’s the key to saving the world. Suffice it to say, yes, Aloy will be a main character in our story. My writing partner on this, Michelle Lovretta, and I are thrilled to be able to expand this remarkable IP into a series for all types of viewers. ”
An expanding roster of Sony adaptations
We first got an inkling that Sony was working on a Horizon Zero Dawn series in a recent business presentation. Horizon is also one of many, many franchises that Sony is adapting into other media.
Sony and PlayStation Productions have a number of projects in the works, headed towards both series and the silver screen. Last week, a report revealed that a Days Gone project is in the works. Gravity Rush also reportedly has a film in development.
Then there’s HBO’s The Last of Us, the already-released Uncharted movie, and several other reports of projects in the works. PlayStation Productions continues to surge ahead with adaptations, as it seems like there are few franchises that aren’t getting their time on the screen.
