Super Meat Boy hurts so good

A busy new month of gaming awaits us, so before we all forget, let’s quickly look over the Xbox Games with Gold lineup for June. Soon enough, subscribers will be able to nab the original version of Super Meat Boy, as well as another gem from the Xbox Live Arcade era, Raskulls, and two city-builders: Aven Colony (from 2017) and Project Highrise (from 2018).

For June 2022, Xbox Games with Gold is giving out four free games:

With an active Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, you can redeem these games during those listed time frames, then keep ’em for good.

Many of us have been there and back again with Super Meat Boy — a true test of determination just as much as platforming reflexes. It’s one of those greats in its genre, and this is the original Xbox Live Arcade edition, so grab your headphones and crank it up.

The other throwback for June is Raskulls, a frantic action-platformer that’s notable around here for its sharp-dressed Mr. Destrctoid cameo, while Aven Colony and Project Highrise are a bit newer (but not exactly “fresh”). The former is a city-builder with drones and aliens, while the latter is going for a more squished SimTower vibe. Not a bad spread!

More games to check out sooner than later

Some of the May selections, including Viva Piñata Party Animals, are still claimable.

While we’re talking about what’s coming and going, there’s also an update on Xbox Game Pass, with highlights like Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection on June 2, and Assassin’s Creed Origins, Chorus, and Disc Room on June 7. Eric has the latest Game Pass recap for June.
