Hits the streets summer 2022
What a year it is shaping up to be for TMNT fans. Not only have we gotten word of Konami’s exciting TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection, but Dotemu’s great-looking brawler TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge now has an official release window of summer 2022 for PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, and an update on the voice actors.
In further news — perhaps even more exciting for old-school fans — developer Tribute Games revealed that the cartoon brawler will see the return of some original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cast members, who are reprising their roles from the iconic 1980s animated series. Cam Clarke (Leonardo), Townsend Coleman (Michelangelo), Barry Gordon (Donatello), and the legendary Rob Paulsen (Raphael) have all recorded brand new dialogue for Shredder’s Revenge, which will definitely lend the new game an extra air of authenticity and nostalgia.
While this is indeed fantastic news, and I don’t wish to seem ungrateful, it is a shame that the team was unable to facilitate Renae Jacobs’ return as Channel 6 reporter April O’Neil, with Peter Renaday reprising his role as Master Splinter. Corralling actors is an incredibly tough gig, and it’s understandable if the developers were unable to afford and/or obtain everybody in time. Of course, The Shredder’s most recognizable voice actor, James Avery, sadly passed in 2013, though his legacy as the turtles’ nemesis lives on forever. DES-TROYYYY THEMMM!
Shredder’s Revenge is looking like a riot, and while I don’t expect it to have quite the precision and depth of Dotemu’s Streets of Rage 4, its great cartoon visuals, authentic audio package, and wild multiplayer action look set to deliver the goods for TMNT fans and beat-’em-up players alike when it finally blasts out of the sewers and onto the streets of NYC.
TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge launches this summer on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
