Today, Valve’s marketing director, Doug Lombardi, told 1UP that the recent updates to Team Fortress 2 will not hit the PlayStation 3 version of the game. The reason isn’t because Gabe Newell doesn’t like the PS3 (although the man certainly doesn’t); it’s because Valve doesn’t have any internal PS3 development going on.
And the new gets worse. The only reason The Orange Box hit the PS3 is because Electronic Arts farmed it out, and as far as Lombardi knows, all development on the popular set that contains TF2 has ceased. That means any update is totally out of the picture.
Obviously, the lack of support is frustrating for fans of the PS3 version. It’s like going to a bar and not being rewarded with your second round after you already paid. Valve’s stance on development for Sony’s platform is that the console isn’t worth the trouble. Doesn’t this little fact affect whether you purchase the game or not? Would you consider buying Left 4 Dead on the PS3, knowing that the title will probably get this same treatment?
