Go beyond rollerblading
Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has been circling around on my radar for a while now. This stylish action sports game with serious Jet Set Radio vibes made a big splash with its debut, and its latest trailer just adds even more on top.
Lethal League developer Team Reptile debuted Bomb Rush Cyberfunk with the kind of activities you’d expect out of it: skating, dancing, and graffiti tagging. It all looks incredible, with action sports that look smooth as silk, a world and characters that pop off the screen, and all the features you’d want out of a game with graffiti and extreme sports.
So what does the latest trailer add? Two new ways to traverse the town.
Team Reptile’s latest teaser shows off both skateboarding and BMX cycling, as two additional ways you can get around the city. In a message included with the trailer, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk game director Dion Koster says the game is a “big street culture symphony,” building on that feeling of going to the local skatepark or hanging out at the mall.
Getting around in style will be important, as Koster says that many secrets are found through points and combos done throughout the stage. And with a skateboard, BMX bike, inline skates, and your own two feet, there are a lot of ways to move in style.
I try to keep expectations in check for trailers and previews, but man, it’s hard to deny that the trailer above has me really, really interested in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. It really looks like Team Reptile is setting itself apart from the Jet Set Radio series, doing their own thing and building up a stylish world of turf wars and sick moves. It’ll be one to watch for when it drops sometime this year. You can wishlist it on Steam here.
