Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was one of the most hyped and covered game releases of the year, yet funnily enough, the mastermind behind Solid Snake’s PlayStation 3 adventure has little love for massive ad campaigns.
Kojima’s complaints have been found in a job opportunity offer for Kojima Productions. Here’s what the mad genius had to say:
The creativity of video games is now on the verge of crisis. Massive advertising campaigns are executed for games before their entertainment values are put into consideration all too often, resulting in sell-off tactics happening without hesitation.
While we all know that over-exposure can harm a game, it certainly didn’t do any damage to Guns of the Patriots. Kojima is correct that hype is far too widespread these days, but he can’t deny that his own game rode the exposure train all the way to the bank.
