If you have purchased Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition on PC, then Rockstar has something in the form of a little compensation for you. Anyone who purchased the dreadful and rightfully maligned release can pick one from a selection of Actually Good Rockstar releases directly from the Rockstar Store free of charge.

Just log in to your account before January 5, 2022 and, provided that you own Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition, you can choose one of the following seven items gratis: Bully: Scholarship Edition, Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition, Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition, L.A. Noire, or Max Payne. Alternatively, you can also choose 55 Gold Bars for Red Dead Online, or a Great White Shark Card for GTA Online. I bet you have all those games already.

Released in November of this year, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition is perhaps the worst received release in Rockstar Games history. The new compilation of classic, open-world crime scenes received some praise for their modern-day visual effects, such as lighting and atmosphere, but overall the trilogy was roundly criticized for poor character models, terrible weather physics, misspelled art assets, a litany of bugs and glitches, draw distance problems, and a high price tag. In addition, players took issue with Rockstar’s heavy-handed approach toward mod communities who had, ironically, created arguably far better “remasters” of the original games than Rockstar’s own release.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition is available now on PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
