Joey Cuellar out as CEO

Recommended Videos

Following troubling accusations made against Joey “MrWizard” Cuellar, one of the organizers of the annual Evo fighting game tournament, the organizers of the event announced they are canceling Evo 2020. The move comes after multiple participants, supporters, and commentators dropped out of the show, leading to publishers like NeatherRealm, Capcom, and Bandai Namco pulling their support as well.

Originally, Evo placed Cuellar on administrative leave pending a third-party investigation into the claims made against him. Less than a day later, the organization announced it is parting ways with Cuellar and that Tony Cannon is taking over as CEO.

The cancelation of this year’s event looked like an inevitability as the number of participants and partners pulling out of the show grew. Now, Cannon and the rest of the Evo team are going to have to rebuild trust in the fighting game community.
