It’s coming to Android and iOS soon
The reign of adorable little pocket monsters taking over your local park is nearly over. Soon, there will be terrifying monsters posted up next to the tetherball court.
CD Projekt Red is working on an augmented reality mobile game for its Witcher franchise. Titled The Witcher: Monster Slayer, it seems to be exactly in the style of Pokemon Go, just with more ferocious creatures. Slaying these monsters takes more skill than flicking a ball, though. The Witcher: Monster Slayer draws inspiration from The Elder Scrolls: Blades for its combat system, requiring slashes and stabs with perfect rhythm and timing.
As for the canon of Monster Slayer, this AR game takes place “long before the time of Geralt of Rivia.” There’s some sort of narrative running through it, as a description reads “experience story-driven quests that propel you through epic adventures inspired by the Witcher series.” There’s some purpose here.
The Witcher: Monster Slayer is being developed by Spokko, which is a Polish mobile studio that was bought by CD Projekt Red in 2018. Chances are, Spokko was acquired and immediately tasked with this project. It fits too perfectly into CD Projekt’s portfolio.
You can get your hands on this violent Pokemon Go when it launches later this year. The Witcher: Monster Slayer is coming to iOS and Android devices “soon.”
