The Switch receives fighting royalty this week, as retro-enthusiasts Hamster have released SNK’s The Last Blade 2 on the Nintendo platform.

Debuting in arcades in 1998, before being ported to the Neo Geo and Sega Dreamcast, The Last Blade 2 blends the aesthetics and depth of Garou: Mark of the Wolves with the ancient, weapon-based combat of the Samurai Shodown series, creating an intense and enthralling one-on-one fighter.

Players choose a warrior from a noble – somewhat downbeat – cast of characters, before engaging in a series of fights, in order to guide their chosen character to their destiny. Last Blade 2 features a slightly more muted colour scheme than its predecessor, in an effort to reflect the game’s more straight-laced storyline.

The game’s “Speed” and “Power” system returns, allowing players to choose between having access to stylish chained combos or higher damage output. New to Last Blade 2 is the “EX” option, which attempts to find a middle-ground between the two fighting styles.

The Last Blade 2 is available now on Nintendo Switch, priced at $8. It has also currently available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The video below is from the Xbox One version.
