There can only be one…
Nearly a year ago, PUBG Corp. had claimed that Epic Games’ Fortnite was a “carbon copy” of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. As preposterous as that claim may have been, PUBG Corp. is now looking to take legal action against its number one competitor for copyright infringement. PUBG Corp. is asking the courts to determine if Fortnite had copied Battlegrounds. The news comes from The Korea Times, who has reported that an official from PUBG Corp. had stated, “We filed the suit to protect our copyright in January.”
The claim, specifically, is going against Epic Games Korea, which is preparing to launch a version of Fortnite into East Asia in cooperation with Neowiz Games (developer and publisher of a popular MMO in the region). Personally, this sounds like an attempt to cut off Epic Games’ expansion into Korea, but I can’t say one way or the other.
