For those of you hoping that today’s mandatory Xbox 360 system update brings new features, I’m sorry to disappoint. In all actuality, the patch is merely just another one of those “behind-the-scenes” sort of things that’ll improve Xbox Live’s scalability.

In similar news, Xbox Live will be down from 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. PDT on Monday for “scheduled maintenance.” Major Nelson also informs us that Xbox.com will be unavailable and you won’t be able to post on the Xbox.com forums either.

It usually isn’t until the exact moment Xbox Live goes down that I want to do absolutely nothing but play online games. But seeing as how Grand Theft Auto IV is almost out and there will definitely be a sizeable surge in XBL activity, the maintenance is probably for the best.
