Have you ever fantasized about renting out a movie theater and hooking up your video games to the projector? The creators of TimePlay certainly did.  They’ve developed a technology that allows movie-goers to play local co-op games on the big screen, compete in live trivia, play along with music, and more from any mobile phone.  This is a real thing that’s being play-tested across movie theaters, right now.  The company has pilot programs right now in Detroit and Toronto, with some even giving out some big prizes to the top players.

How does this madness work?

Your Apple, Android, or Blackberry phones are the controller, and everybody in the theater can join the game by connecting to the TimePlay WiFi Hotspot when it’s game time.  To get ready before you get seated, you must first download the free TimePlay app and register a gamer profile.  This will let you customize a big screen avatar, track your performance on in-app leaderboards by location, and over time for bigger prizes as well as easier redemption. Prizes vary by time and location: check the website for which theaters in participating areas are enabled and give it your best shot!

Play in theaters Jan 26th – Feb 22nd, with tournament finals on March 17th

Show off your TimePlay Skills! For the first time ever, compete against other TimePlayers in Toronto for a chance at a $5000 cash prize pool. Visit any one of Toronto’s TimePlay enabled theaters, get to your seat at least 15 minutes before your movie showtime, play TimePlay and you’re automatically entered for your chance to win! Toronto’s Top 20 players will be invited to the Finals in March 2018. Your tournament score is cumulative, the more you play the better your chances.
