A French Web site released a game on the Internet called New York Defender several years ago, a so-called satirical game in which you get a chance to “fight back” by shooting at a multitude of planes before they hit the Twin Towers. While shocking online games are nothing new and this one in particular is quite old, it has recently hit mainstream news sources, ensuring that a flood of reactions and screaming from people who should probably just ignore it is now underway.

The designer of the flash game claims that the message is that like America’s war on terror, the game cannot be won. Wow man, that’s about as deep as the faux social commentary spewed by the Super Columbine guy.

While I like some hard nosed satire and bad taste humor, this game is neither clever, funny, nor even a very fun thing to play. As for the people who are going to cry and be offended about it though, just ignore it. It’s a bloody flash game, and if you’re going to subject yourself to it and “open old wounds,” as the CBS report claims, it’s your own bloody fault. The game is stupid and so are the people who are going to willingly subject themselves to it just so they can be upset.
