YouTube launching subscription service with exclusive PewDiePie show

By the producers of The Walking Dead

Today, YouTube announced its new service YouTube Red that will have exclusive shows, movies, and make the site ad-free for $9.99 a month.

Among the exclusive content announced for YouTube Red is Lazer Team, a sci-fi comedy by Rooster Teeth, and Scare PewDiePie, a reality show from the producers of The Walking Dead. PewDiePie will explore sets inspired by famous horror video games while a camera crew follows him, capturing his reactions.

Yay? I guess this is great if you’re a YouTube fanatic that chooses not to use adblock because you want to support your favorite content producers (as you should), but I don’t see this catching on with the older crowd. Right now, most of the shows are aimed squarely at kids, but kids equal money (see: Minecraft, PewDiePie, Five Nights At Freddy’s, and the box office every weekend a new animated kids film launches).

Are you going to sign up for YouTube Red? Personally, I’m not convinced.
