At least on Twitter
No Man’s Sky is finally out and thus far the impressions I’ve read have ranged from being all right, to downright boring. Boring, as you’ll find out, is a word many people on Twitter are using to describe the game.
When I voiced my concerns after seeing impressions, YouTuber Mari aka Geek Remix parroted my fears:
@Jed05 it’s boring

Popular YouTuber Jesse Cox feared the game would be “hot garbage” but admitted it looked beautiful but boring:
This is more accurate. Everything about No Man’s Sky says “ooooh this looks really pretty and VERY boring” https://t.co/gMJ5fUYsD9

Ghost Song‘s creator found the opening bit boring:
#NoMansSky I fixed my ship and went into space. Maybe I’m more cynical than most but I find hunting for little ingredients to be boring

Many people watching midnight streams of No Man’s Sky had the same impressions, though perhaps it just isn’t a great game to stream?
After an hour of watching No Man’s Sky I wanted to eat nails for fun, it was that damn boring!

No Man’s Sky looks kinda psychedelic and boring. “Psychedelic” and “boring” aren’t words that should be spoken together in the same breath.

One person seemed upset by the lack of guns in whatever footage they were watching:
Does no mans sky have guns cause it looks kinda boring just jumping from different planets
— crum (@crumjob) August 9, 2016
Others seemed outright angry
So #NoMansSky is boring as fuck

Destructoid alumni Jim Sterling had some stiff words about the game after saying it hadn’t “really grabbed grabbed [him] at all“:
It’s not shit, it’s just more or less another survival/crafting game in a universe that feels like cardboard. https://t.co/7Z0D4sKUsu

So did you pick up No Man’s Sky today? What do you think? Boring? Fun? Have buyer’s remorse?
I’m personally considering not opening my limited edition and tossing it on eBay for a few extra bucks, but I’d love to be convinced otherwise. I’m honestly sad about this — I wanted No Man’s Sky to be great, but I’ve got a hunch that might not be the case, at least for me.
