E-commerce giant seeks software for its set-top boxes
Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has sunk $10 million into Ouya, WSJ reports.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Alibaba inked the deal last month with hopes of integrating the Ouya library on its set-top boxes.
Ouya struck a similar agreement with Xiaomi last year, signaling a shift away from the hardware space. The startup hasn’t had much success at home since its $8.6 million Kickstarter campaign, given a rather tepid reception and competition with similar (better?) devices like Amazon’s Fire TV.
Perhaps Ouya will fare better in its pursuit of the large, untapped Chinese market.
