North America getting lapped
Almost as quick as a speedy Super Mushroom, Mario Kart 64 will be zooming to Wii U’s Virtual Console this week. In just three days, the racer from 1996 will be available to play on Nintendo’s newest console, nearly 20 years after the game’s release.
It’s not a happy story for everyone, though. Mario Kart 64 is only coming to Wii U in Europe for now. Nintendo of Europe made the announcement this morning via Twitter. There’s no word about whether the game will eventually be sold to North American audiences.
The Virtual Console Wii U version of Mario Kart 64 will cost £8.99. It has already been released on Nintendo’s digital storefront once for the Wii. If that’s not good enough, you’ll have to take solace in Mario Kart 8, which ain’t a bad consolation prize.
