American video game composer Jeremy Soule is now a huge name in game music, but started out small, fresh out of high school. His first job was to score the Super Nintendo classic Secret of Evermore (remember that?), but his rep has since exploded, and has gone on to score major titles like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Guild Wars, Prey, and many, many more. He has become one of the largest players in the game music industry.

With this much work going on, he rarely has time to sit for an interview. Game music fans will tell you that words from the composer are few, and the interviews are pretty bare bones and/or stupid. Luckily, Music4Games’s Jayson Napolitano did a kickass job of getting a real interview out of the guy, moving past the stupid stuff like ‘what’s your favorite color’, and getting to the real questions.

Soule talks about his experiences at Squaresoft back in the day, how he changed RTS music (no techno, please), his submission to fansite Overclocked Remix, and how he digs the music of Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy). He also touches on his music downloading service and his future in games and film.

Head over to Music4Games to read the lenghty/meaty interview.

[thanks, Jayson!]
