Things may be less free from here
The jubilant PS4 news was hitting hard and fast at Sony’s press conference, from a $399 price point to continued support of consumers fully owning their games, to tons of exclusives, to no required online ever.
Not to poop in the mashed potatoes, but there may be one downgrade coming to Playstation Nation that’s worth noting. It sounds like PS Plus may be required going forward to play games online. According to a tweet from PlayStation, “PS4 gamers who aren’t Plus members can still enjoy single-player games for free…and access to media services won’t require Plus.”
That implies that PS Plus is required for online multiplayer, which is a shame. It’ll be pretty weird if Nintendo ends up offering the last homes console with “free online.” PS Plus is an amazing deal as it is. It’s worth it for the free games alone. Still, it never feels good to start paying for something that used to be complimentary. If my local Olive Garden started charging me for the opening bread basket, I might start going to Bertucci’s.
